Laura Linney has been hailed as one of America's most well-known actors. Her fame is for playing strong characters but equally fragile. Born to a well-known playwright's father, and being raised by a single mother, who earned her living in the field of nursing, she was drawn to theatre when spending summers with her father and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially as a student at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. The actress began her Broadway career soon after completing her degree, and then made her debut on television the following year.
